Carriage of Diagnostic & Infectious Substances by Air

(1 day)

From the beginning of 2005, there were major changes in the classification of Class 6.2 substances.  Risk Groups were replaced by Category A and Category B substances - there are also changes to packing requirements, labelling and shipping papers.   US shippers have to familiarise themselves with both ICAO and IATA rules as well as 49CFR regulations which are different from the international rules.

The course is also available in-house anywhere in the USA.

At the end of the course, delegates will:

  1. Have an understanding of the organisations involved in developing hazardous material (dangerous goods) regulations - UN, ICAO, IATA, FAA, FHEMA, DoT
  2. Classify substances into Category A or Category B substances.
  3. Understand the new definitions of cultures and patient specimens.
  4. Package shipments in accordance with the regulations.
  5. Correctly mark and label a package in compliance with 49CFR and ICAO regulations.
  6. Prepare shipping papers / shipper's declaration for dangerous goods when required.
  7. Recognise the different procedures needed for domestic and international shipments.
