DANGEROUS GOODS REGULATIONS UPDATE
October 2010 - January 2011
Half Day Seminars

Background

There are significant changes to dangerous goods regulations from the beginning of 2011.  Anyone dealing with dangerous goods needs to be aware of the new regulations and must assess the impact on their procedures.  Everyone involved with dangerous goods will be affected - exporters, shippers, packers, couriers, integrators, freight forwarders, handling agents, shipping lines, hauliers and airlines.

There are new editions of the ICAO Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air, the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code and the ADR regulations.

Peter East Associates is organising a series of half-day seminars throughout the UK to explain these changes in greater detail.  The programme runs from October to January, leaving time for delegates to update procedures and assess how these changes may impact their organisations.  We are also able to provide this seminar in-house.

Major changes covered

  • New multimodal limited quantity rules including new labels
  • New limited quantity rules for road movement
  • Reformatted packing instructions for air transport
  • Many new entries to the dangerous goods list
  • Changes to the training provisions for road and air transport
  • Amendments to the classification of mixtures and solutions for road
  • Simplification of the packaging and marking requirements for genetically modified micro-organisms (GMOs)
  • Clarification on the classification of mixtures in IMDG
  • New requirement for the technical name as part of the proper shipping name in IMDG
  • Provisions for fumigated units now in one stand alone chapter in both ADR and IMDG
  • Amendments and changes to many parts of the ADR/ICAO/IATA/IMDG regulations

We have not received final details of all the new regulations and cannot guarantee full coverage of all these topics.

Legal Framework

The seminar focuses on the following reguatlions:

  • International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air 2011/12 edition
  • International Air Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations 2011
  • International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code Amendment 35
  • European Agreement for International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) from 1 January 2011
  • UK Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road Regulations 2009

Update August 2010 - These seminars are proving very popular, so we do suggest early booking. When the morning sessions are full, we will book delegates onto afternoon sessions.  The seminars are also available in-house, and we are taking bookings for in-house sessions to run from the middle of October onwards.
