Top Class Speakers at Peter East Update
May 23, 2018
At this year’s trainers’ gathering we welcomed two guest speakers to update Peter East trainers on some key dangerous goods issues. First up was Ali Karim, managing director of the HazChem Network, who illustrated the importance of planning for potential dangerous goods incidents. His presentation focused on a number of incidents in recent years, and the lessons that can be learned and must be passed on in training sessions.
Dave Watkins, from Air-Sea Containers, followed up with a talk about new developments in dangerous goods packaging. Air-Sea have focused on the growing demand for bespoke solutions as the size, weight and power of lithium batteries increases. In addition to specially developed UN tested packagings, Dave demonstrated how mitigating risk of fire heat and smoke for the safe storage and transport of lithium batteries is possible using new innovative suppressant materials. Other advancements comprised hygienic dust free absorbent and cushioning materials where shippers require vermiculite alternatives.
In addition to the guest speakers, the Peter East team of trainers received updates on the training market, new courses being developed and preparations for the implementation of the GDPR data protection legislation. This year the two day Peter East gathering took place at the Taplow House Hotel just outside Maidenhead. It is an excellent opportunity for Peter East trainers to network and to ensure that we continue to develop our dangerous goods training and consultancy business in the UK and overseas.
