The transport of hazardous materials within the United States comes with its own set of regulatory requirements that differ from international rules like ADR, IMDG and ICAO/IATA. At the heart of U.S. hazmat regulation is 49 CFR. Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations governs the domestic carriage of hazardous goods by ground, air, railroad and sea under U.S. law.
To help logistics professionals, shippers, carriers and freight forwarders in Europe better understand and comply with these rules, we’re excited to launch our 49 CFR Training Course:
Carriage of Hazardous Goods in the USA
Why 49 CFR Matters
49 CFR sets out the legal framework for transporting dangerous goods (referred to as Hazmat) within the USA, covering everything from classification and packaging to labelling, documentation and training requirements. These regulations are enforced by the USA Department of Transportation (DOT), the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and the US Coastguard.
For organisations operating outside of the USA, and moving goods through the country, understanding 49 CFR is essential.
