Shaun Fethers 18th February 1971 – 19th October 2018
October 26, 2018
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Shaun Fethers on 19th October 2018, aged 47 years old.
Following school and a degree in chemistry, Shaun worked for Ciba-Geigy and after some years joined AstraZeneca (AZ) in Macclesfield. He was heavily involved with their safety services, and it was while at AZ that he qualified as a multimodal dangerous goods instructor delivering courses to AZ personnel, and acting as their Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA).
With the relocation of much of AZ to Cambridge, the opportunity arose for Shaun to work part-time, and so in 2013, he began to deliver training courses on behalf of Peter East Associates (PEA). In 2016, he negotiated redundancy from AZ, and from then worked as a freelance trainer, consultant and DGSA for PEA until May 2018 when he became ill.
Shaun was a first rate communicator, and, with his background in chemistry, extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of dangerous goods. He delivered both open and in-house courses, undertook consultancy projects and also acted as a DGSA for several customers. Above all, delegates appreciated his patience, kindness and humour that could turn what many regard as a very dull subject into something much more interesting. Nothing was too much trouble for Shaun.
Shaun leaves behind his wife Helen, his parents Christine and Paul and his brother Steven as well as a wide circle of friends and colleagues whose lives he touched. He leaves an enormous gap in the PEA family of trainers, and his intimate knowledge, wisdom, wit and support will be sadly missed.
If anyone who has attended one of our courses has a personal memory of Shaun you would like to share or a message for the family, please send it in by e-mail or post as we will pass these onto his immediate family.
